Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal: Lyon confirm they have rejected €35m offer
Lacazette reportedly asked to leave Lyon earlier this summer
Lyon have confirmed they have rejected an offer of €35m (£29.3m) from Arsenal for striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The 25-year-old has been highlighted by the north London side as a
primary transfer target after missing out on Leicester City’s Jamie
Vardy despite activating a £20m release clause in his previous contract
with the Premier League champions.
French newspaper Le Progres reported this morning that Lyon have recieved a €48m offer from Arsenal for Lacazette, the France international who has scored 72 goals in 173 appearances.
A statement from the Ligue 1 club reads: "Olympique Lyonnais
categorically deny having received an offer of €48m from Arsenal for the
transfer of Alexandre Lacazette, as Le Progres report.
"The club is disappointed that Le Progres didn't go to the
effort of contacting us before publishing false information, which
creates confusion on the day the club is publishing its annual figures.
"The reality is that Arsenal made a €35million bid, which Olympique
Lyonnais turned down for one reason: l'OL will keep Alexandre Lacazette,
who is irreplaceable and who is one of the main leaders in Bruno
Genesio's squad."

The Gunners have monitored Lacazette’s situation this summer in the belief that he wishes to leave the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
It remains to be seen if Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, will
return with an improved bid after the Frenchman stated he is prepared to
spend big so long as “quality” additions become available this summer.
